Create a Successful Instagram Account: Part 2
Creating a Visual Identity With Your Smartphone
Instagram is primarily a visual app. It relies on instant first impressions and brand consistency. For this reason, brand photography and marketing videos are a great way to achieve this.
However, during this time of social distancing, many businesses are having to “do it all,” and that means using smartphone photography to create and maintain a visual brand.
It’s important you share content which implies intent and aesthetic consideration. As we’ve said, it’s not necessary to have a perfectly curated feed. However, we do think it’s important you apply a certain amount of professionalism to the photos or videos you post.
Smartphone editing is easy
It’s not necessary for all your content to be professionally created. After all, you know your business better than anyone! Being able to post immediately is very useful, especially when using the Instagram Stories feature. And right now, you may be needing to share photos of products or services you’re offering virtually.
First, we recommend you implement a post production policy using social media “best practices.” The content you post should be recognized as yours. For example, make sure you refer back to your chosen “theme” or visual personality.
This can be done in a number of ways. However, a good starting point is by consistently editing the content you share. Photo editing apps are often free and can be very easy to use. There’s no need to get too fancy, either. A simple white balance or crop can do wonders to clean up your photos.
Some of our favourite photo editing apps are Snapseed, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Photoshop Express.
It may be tempting to imitate popular Instagram aesthetics. But brand photography and marketing videos should represent your company and your visual identity. It is important to stay authentic.
